Think about this concept which is important to understand: imagine a son didn’t listen to his parents and acted against their wishes. Now, doing the opposite of what his parents told him or had wished for a situation, even after the son apologizes and promises he would never to do it again, there remains a blemish in their relationship and this was created by his insolence or his wish not to listen. Now, there may be some lingering bad feelings and even sense of awkwardness or estrangement. Indeed, their bond and their trust have been weakened. If their relationship is truly important to him, the son will want to appeal to his parents and try to smooth things over and repair the breach and restore this trust; perhaps even by giving them a gift. It’s not something that is necessary, but it might help.
When this happens, we feel as though this is the cause for a blemish and often, we believe that this blemish is permanent. The truth is, there is no permanent blemish in this world, nothing that time and a responsible action can’t repair. You can say “you’re sorry”, apologize, perhaps even give a gift, and it can all go away. (more…)
