There is a famous parable about a child who saw a caterpillar. When the caterpillar was there on the branch, it was struggling to get out of its cocoon. So the boy, being a young child, took pity on the caterpillar and cut open the cocoon to allow the caterpillar out. When the caterpillar turned out to be a butterfly, it couldn’t fly.
You see, although the boy thought he was doing the caterpillar a favor, in reality, he was crippling it. The caterpillar needed to struggle out of its own cocoon in order to develop the right muscles to be able to fly later and be a free, beautiful butterfly. (more…)
