Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 58 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
As I was driving by today, I saw a man on a bicycle with flip-flops, a t-shirt, a suntan, shorts, enjoying his ride. He had a drink in his hands and he seemed as though he had no care and no worries at all. He seemed quite relaxed. He looked truly happy. He was just waiting at the light to cross the street with his bicycle. It occurred to me that there are people in this world who enjoy their day, even though don’t seem to have much.
You could tell that this man did not have a lot but in truth, irrespective of his material possessions, this man seemed quite content. The ultimate life, to be happy with what you have, not to be in constant pursuit of more or greater, or better, but just to be content.
Contentment is a gift. It’s not something that you are actually given from the beginning. It’s something that you learn, something that you acquire over a period of time. Something that if you were to do it properly, you will experience and you could work on it to keep it for the rest of your life. Content is not just a state of mind, it’s a piece of art.
Each day makes up a piece in the mosaic of your life. If you are content with what you have, happiness is not something that you pursue. Happiness is actually something that you design, something that you wish and something that you work for on a constant basis. Accept what you have, the challenges that you face, and understand the obstacles that are in front of you while being content with your results. The direction you’re going and the things that you’re doing, involves your mind, involves your heart, involves your speech, even your actions. Be content with what you’ve got, at all times— no worries, no care.
I really don’t know what this man’s life is like or what he was doing. I don’t know, but he seemed to me pretty happy and quite content. From this I learned to also use that in my life, irrespective of the direction or the challenges or the obstacles. To be content at all times, and live that way from now on.
