Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 332 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
I have given many lectures throughout the world pertaining to many different subjects. Just recently, during one of my lectures, several of the people who were sitting in the front had tears in their eyes; unexpected tears. Something that I said, a concept that I spoke about, a story that I told, an idea that I shared had caused those tears to come down their cheeks.
Now, you may say, “Is this the right thing to do?” If you affect people and they react in such a way that unexpected tears come out, you know that you have touched their heart. You know that you have come into a place in their life where goodness resides. Through your words, your story, your cues, your examples, or even whatever it is that you shared with them as an idea, somehow brought out an emotion which caused their tears to come down. This is the right way to do what you want to do. This is the right way to give a lecture.
A speaker can touch the heart of the listeners, of the audience, without saying too much and leading in the right direction. Affecting them to the point where tears come out unexpectedly, then you know that you are giving the right message. Now, that doesn’t mean that every single message should cause the audience to cry or that every single message should cause them to laugh. But it means that every single message should create an engagement; and that engagement in their mind should have a reaction. You want to make sure that as you’re speaking to someone else, an audience, a group of people, or even to one single person, that they walk away from the experience feeling greater about themselves than they did before they came to that conversation.
That’s the secret of a good speech, a good orator, or a good audience listening to the speaker. That’s the secret of a great message. I was touched by the fact that they had tears coming down their cheeks, but I was pleased at my message because it’s reached their heart. You want people to feel and know that when they walk away, they are different than when they first came in. They should be different. They should be touched, and you can feel confident that your message had great values. This is what unexpected tears is all about.
