Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 416 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
There’s a woman by the name of Sarah Murray Jordan. She was a doctor, a gastroenterologist, and one of the four founders of one of the most famous clinic in Boston, Massachusetts. She not only had a medical degree, she also had a Ph.D.
What is interesting is that in those days, in the 1880s when she was born, it was not particularly accepted, that a woman would become a doctor. Not only was it not accepted, it was actually, to a certain extent, refuted by all other physicians who were themselves males.
Now, this is interesting because she was facing a situation and could have accepted it and resigned by not becoming a physician or, not accepted it and done something about, it which is what she did.
When you are faced with a situation, typically any kind of situation, whether it’s a challenge or an obstacle, you have three options. One is to say, “I’m not going to deal with it. I’m not going to fight it. I’m going to accept it.”
The second is to say, “I’m going to accept it but I don’t like it,”
The third is to say, “I’m going to change it. I’m going to make that change and make that difference.”
All of those options I have given to you each and every time an obstacle happens; something that is there blocking your way, either you accept it, challenge it, or change it at any given time. Those options are literally the best options you will be given throughout your life, to know that this is your path in life. Now, if you want to be happy, of course, you have to know what you can control and what you cannot control but you will need to also realize that there’s some things you can change and some things you cannot. These things that you can change, go ahead and make that change and accept the rest, the way that it is. These issues often are not about moral issues or things that will change everybody’s life but it’s more so about what you want to do with it. It’s knowing that on a daily basis, you have the options to choose, at any given time, and decide what do you want to do with it.
So when you’re upset or you find yourself in these obstacles, think of these options and decide for yourself which one do you want. Once you make that decision, you’ll find, that you’re happier. Know also that you have the strength to do whatever it is that you want to do with it moving forward or not, and things will be so much easier in your life.
