Daily Wisdom  – Motivational Podcast – Day 436 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond

A well-known man by the name of John D. Rockefeller, one of the richest men of his time was asked what would make him more happy, and this is what he responded, “One dollar more.”

Can you imagine that kind of an answer? Think about that.

Money can buy so much and it can do so much more for us, but can it buy happiness?

Study after studies, it is shown that the desire for more stuff, more goods, more materialistic aspect has gone with the rise of income and is a “happiness suppressant”. So you accumulate more, but you’re not as happy. Many studies have shown that. It’s interesting.

Money has been said, is just like oxygen. If you don’t have oxygen, it could be a serious issue. It could cause serious illness and problem. It could even kill you but if you have what it needs for your body to breathe; the abundance of the oxygen is irrelevant; it doesn’t serve any purpose for you, and so it is with joy of having what you need.

One person said that “happiness is not tied to how much money you have but how much you had in the past or hope to have in the future”.

However, how you deal with what you have right now, is what creates the happiness that you want. Happiness is living within your means, it is called a reasonable life. You can have what you need. The difference is to know what you want versus what you need.

We know for a fact that money may not buy happiness but debt for a fact will make everyone miserable. You have to differentiate on the things that you have to have.

So, if there is something that you don’t really need versus what you want and it makes you unhappy, why fight for it? Why work for it? Why strive to get it?

Often, it’s just a matter of ego. “I just want that, so people can look at me so others can hear what I have and how successful I am.”

Success, at no point in time will be a determining factor of your happiness. Never.

Happiness is how you feel inside about yourself and the self-respect that you have for the person that you are. Be careful with what you acquire and in the pursuit of getting these goods versus what you become. Life is about becoming, not getting and accumulating. To become a “hoarder” of anything, including money, will not bring you happiness ever. But to know that what you have is worth living for, that, will make your day so much more enjoyable.
