I would like to share with you some information, something personal.
I have a grandchild who at his young age had to go on a sleepover and he was concerned, he was worried. Sleeping over when you’re young at someone else’s house is not so simple. What does it take to achieve a personal success? It’s more than an exercise and a discipline; it’s also an exercise in courage.
Courage is not something that children develops at first. It’s something they nurture over the years. That’s why true courage is a priceless commodity. A philosopher once said that “a truly courageous person is not someone who never feels fear but one who fears the right thing at the right time in the right way.”
This is what this grandson decided to do: he was not afraid of what would happen to him. He was concerned as to whether or not he would be able to overcome the part where he would be separated from his family. This is how our lives are.
Many people are concerned about their health, their wealth, their relationships, their jobs, about everything, and some people are not able to overcome those fears. They restrain themselves and what might result is that they may fail, and these fears may slow them down or sometimes, even mislead them. But once you categorize the fears and you realize that within you, you have the courage to overcome any obstacle and you could be the best that you can be, you never have to be a victim of circumstances. You can actually create your own destiny and you don’t have to be afraid of the dark because you know how to turn on the light any time you wish. The switch is right there for you. In every generation, children learn how to grow up.
I was so pleased to hear that this grandchild actually went to this all-nighter and he made it through. This is what you call courage in its ultimate form. As a grandfather, of course, I’m proud of that but he, my grandson, learned the process of overcoming a fear, learning on how to become a better person, about the ideals of life, and instead of reacting, he acted. Instead of not taking advantage of the opportunities, he went ahead and did what he thought was right. A truly courageous person fears making appearances more than important realities, making impressions more important than communication, making himself more important than those who are depending on him. In other words, the truth is, the truly courageous person fears nothing except fear itself, and so once you overcome those fears, you realize who you are and what you can do, and nothing can stand in your way. You don’t have to be embarrassed or ashamed, and you can accomplish even more so than you had first thought about or anticipated.
So to this grandson and to all the children out there, and all the adults who have fear, develop the courage, develop a sense of belonging, a sense of honesty, a sense of integrity, and know that you are a blessed child and that nothing in the world can stop you from becoming the ultimate you in making this world a better place to be, than it was than when you first got here.
