Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 896 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
What do you have and what makes what you have yours? Have you thought about that? And yours, meaning this is your spouse, this is your children, this is your home or your job, or your car, your clothes, your reputation, things that you have, and if the word ‘yours’ applies to these things, how did you come to possess these things or these ideas?
There are three ways.
One way is to earn all those things. The other way is that it was given to you, and the third way is that it was inherited.
Let me explain. The things that you earned are the things that you were able to buy. Perhaps you earned some money and you paid cash for it, and you bought that piece of furniture that you wanted or that phone, something that you felt you deserved because you are able to buy it.
Things that were given to you or gifts, someone may have taught you some things that you learned and you appreciated that, or the love that you received from someone else, and something that you could not have achieved on your own. It’s a gift. It’s beyond you but they belong to a reality greater than yourself. It just came to you from someone else or something else.
Inherited, however, is different. Inherit means it is intrinsically yours, like your birthright or your inheritance, something you didn’t have to do anything for. You just got it by virtue of who you are or where you are. For instance, your soul, your mind, or the things that you were born with; talents, your traditions, the land that you were born in, all of those things you got. Now, the gifts you receive will always depend on forces beyond your control but the things that are inherited will be yours irrespective of the circumstances and under all conditions. You can disallow them, you can even try to reject them and say, “I am not a citizen of that country,” but you know what? You can’t get rid of that. It can’t stop. It can’t change. This will always stay with you.
So what you have now, are those three different things, whether it was earned, given, or inherited, these are the things that make up the person you are.
Might I ask you? on the things you’ve earned, that was your job.
On the things you were given, that was a gift.
But on the things that were inherited, why not make them worthwhile because it’s yours?
