Daily Wisdom  â Motivational Podcast â Day 972 â Inspiration: Above and Beyond
There is a story of a king who was quite benevolent and very kind to all of his constituents and he sent a notice to the whole country, and anyone who wished to come and visit him on a specific date, the gates of the palace will be open between six in the morning until six in the evening. Everyone was invited. There would be no red tape, no bureaucracy, no one would be refused entrance into the palace, and everyone could come.
Now, the king was a very wise man and so he set up the palace in such a unique fashion that you had to go through different floors to get there. On the first floor, there was a lavish exposition of all the best food that the palace could offer. On the second floor, there were drinks, aged wines and all types of liquor. On the third floor, all the jewelry and all the wealth of the extravagant type of jewels that the palace owned were displayed. On the fourth floor, all of the galleries of arts that had been accumulated by the palace were displayed in that floor. On the fifth floor, all the books and the manuscripts, those of young and old age were all displayed for anyone who wanted to put their time into it. On the sixth floor, the musicians of some of the best type of instruments were playing melodies that were above and beyond.
Now, everyone flocked to each floor according to their nature. Some people wanted to see what the jewelry looked like and some preferred to read the manuscripts, and others just wanted to listen to the music. But by six oâclock at night, everyone had to leave and they missed the king.
Now, there was a simple peasant who knew nothing and so when he showed up at six in the morning, he only took a small bite of the food, then he went on and had a small drink on the second floor, then he skipped all the other floors because he was not interested in the music and the jewelry and the art, and the manuscripts, he was just a simple peasant. Then he got to the floor and he spent the whole day with the king. He was the only one. The other people, because they were so sophisticated, they were enamored by the glory, the richness, the royalty, the aristocracy and they got stuck on the other floor, but not him. The core of the relationship that he developed with the King on that day was exceptional.
Ask yourself this question: what is the best use of your time? Are you spending too much time with the toys and at work looking at the manuscripts, or figuring out the best foods, or are you spending time with your family, your children, loved ones, perhaps, or parents?
How do you make the best use of your time? How do you know that you’re spending your time in the right proportion towards the things that should matter in life? You don’t want the evening to come which is the end of life for you only to realize that you spent most of your time going around enjoying the food, drinks, arts, and other trivialities without spending the right time with your family or your loved ones, or those who matter so much to you.
So the best use of your time, is to pay attention to it today and wherever you are, whomever you are, you can change that, today.
