Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 511 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
I would like to write about a concept that happens often in professional settings but also sometimes in families.
I was working with a colleague and I noticed that he made a mistake. This colleague got very upset and brought the team that was working under him, and admonished everyone for what had happened. At that time, he not only told them exactly what he thought about the problem but at the same time he became very angry. They, of course, became defensive in response and an argument broke out, and at the end, nothing was resolved.
Perhaps, I may suggest that what should have happened was instead of trying to attend to the immediate burning problem, why not at this time, first correct the mistake? Just correct it and then figure out a way to prevent it from reoccurring the next time.
This is something which is so valuable: correct and prevent later.
To try to do anything else at the time or pointing fingers doesn’t help anybody. It makes everyone upset, gets everybody all riled up, and at the end, we have a lot of frustrations.
We don’t have a result. But, by looking at the correction of the issue first, in trying to fix it, when things go wrong, you’ll get better results, and then everyone can calmly sit down and figure out what really happened. You then can ask, how did this happen? How can we prevent it in the future? What do we need to do so that this doesn’t recur?
You see, by that time, everyone can do it in a calm way but a way where everyone thinks together, join forces, and work as a team.
I learned this over many years of experience in working and understanding how to deal with situations that are so difficult or challenging at times. Whenever anything happens, correct and then prevent. That’s the best way to work and that’s the surest way to succeed. Everyone around you will benefit, I guarantee you. Everyone will appreciate your patience, your kindness, your attention to details, but mostly, your compassion.
