We are told that when Adam, the first man on Earth was created, the Creator of the world, immediately apprised him of his powers and told him that his purpose in life would be very special. This is what He said: “Replenish the Earth and conquer it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” That’s what He said to am. Now, man was given the power to conquer the world and to rule over it on land, on sea, and in the air, and he is enjoying to do so and this was his task, this is what he was told to do.
Now, how was this world conquest to be attained? And what is the purpose and the true meaning of it? Well, this is what the wise men say in this regard: when G-d, the Creator of the world, created Adam, his soul, his divine image permeated and radiated his whole being by virtue of which he became the ruler over the entire creation. All the creatures gathered to serve him and to crown him as their Creator but Adam, knowing that this would be an error, said to them, “Let us all come and worship G-d who is our maker.”
So it seems from this passage that Adam clearly recognized there was a Creator, but the world conquest which was given to man as his task and his mission in life, is really to do what? The answer is to elevate nature, including the beasts, the animals, and this to the service of true humanity, humanity permeated and illuminated by the Divine image, by the soul which is veritably a part of G-d himself and the whole creation will realize that there’s one maker.
Now, you might say, “I don’t believe in G-d, and I’m not even a religious person,” which is fine. It’s not what this is about, but first you have to recognize your mission and what you have to do in this world.
Before you can set out to conquer the world, you must first conquer yourself and this is through subjugation, the part that you have within you which is human or animalistic per se. Then in your own nature, you can now go and become the best that you can be by changing the world.
You have to admit, however, that there has to be a Being somewhere that is greater than you and I. A Being that is beyond words, a Being which is above and beyond any explanation that we can entertain; all the scientists in the world have yet to figure out who created this world.
So if you accept the logic that the world was created by an Ultimate Being of infinity, of Divine coincidence, above and beyond imagination, then the same Being that created you, wants you to be the best that you can be, and gave you and I the power to conquer the whole world and dominion, as it says, over the whole world.
Why not use that? Because if you don’t fulfill your task and you don’t utilize your values and divine powers, it’s not just a personal loss and failure but it’s something that will affect the destiny of the whole world and that would be a shame, so I would recommend that you not do that.
