Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 572 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
I met someone a couple of days ago and they told me that they had a conversation that was so important and yet they could not finish it.
You are impatient and they were texting while driving. I couldn’t believe that. Driving and texting is so dangerous.
I read recently, back in statistics, it says there is one out of four people who text who will actually end up in an accident, and yet it’s interesting; people don’t think it would be them. They say, “Not me, I’m too careful,” but they still text while driving. At the same time, there was a lottery not long ago and I believe it was something like $300 million, and it was one in millions, literally millions of chances that a person could win, and people bought tickets. So I ask you this question, it may seem ridiculous, but I ask you the question: how could someone buy a ticket for a lottery which is one in millions and millions of chances that they would have to win and they think that they’re going to win? As a matter of fact, they believe they will win, and they buy the ticket. On the other hand, people know that one out of four, statistically speaking, will die from texting and driving, and yet they still text, thinking that won’t happen to them. Impatience makes us completely delusional. It’s interesting.
NASA comes to mind about chance, the big NASA company, the big enterprise, rushing on a project, they did some of their calculations in centimeters and some in inches, and so a multimillion dollar satellite completely missed its target. Can you imagine that? Impatience can create nightmares. Impatience causes injuries in multiple ways, and just like it says, haste makes waste. It’s true. It’s true and it’s been true from the day that phrase was coined, and actually, the truth is, makes haste slowly give up on trying to rush. Impatience can be costly. There are no benefits to that, and when you get an email, if you don’t pay attention to the details that you’re trying to rush through it, what makes you think that you’re going to answer properly while you’re rushing with that?
You realize that the email that you just received took seconds to arrive to you. It’s amazing. In the old days, it may have taken days for it to be written and mailed, and today, even that mail is called a snail mail, but we rush, we rush on everything. We don’t wait, we are so impatient to get through the day, impatient to get through the night, impatient to get through processes. Impatience can be costly and not rewarding. Be patient, be patient with life, be patient with yourself. Mostly, be patient with others. Give everyone the opportunity to express themselves. Do it with love, do it with kindness. Fools believe everything and they believe in nothing. You are not a fool. You should know that patience is a virtue, impatience is not.
