Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 403 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
There’s a concept called “negative self-talk”. Something that we use to bash ourselves; something that we blame ourselves with or carry as guilt because of something we were not able to do at the time. And that is real; people find themselves stuck in situations. They can’t move forward, they realize they made a mistake or there’s something they can’t do, and they say, I just can’t do it. I messed up. My life is miserable. I will never be able to do the right thing. I will never be able to move forward.
Here’s some advice: if you hear yourself thinking, I can’t do this. I am stuck. I will never be able to do that, whatever it is, wherever you are, stop and ask yourself, in the last 30 or 60 days, can you recall two or three things that you did if that were good, that were right? Can you recall anything like that? Is there anything at all that would bring this to your mind at all? And you should be able to say yes to this, and now, these things have come back to you, and yes, you made a mistake and things were touchy at times but you overcame it and you were able to do better. It’s not a good thing at any given time to be self-criticizing, to have low self-esteem; it’s not normal, it’s not right, it’s not good. A chronic self-criticism or negative self-regard is dangerous. It’s dangerous in all aspects and it’s not good at all.
Each and every person deserves to live a good life and in peace, externally and internally, and the more you think about these things, the better the ability to overcome some of these challenges.
So next time you find yourself stuck, stop to think, is it everything that you can’t do right or just some of the things? And you’re right, there are some things that you won’t be able to do for whatever reason. Some people are better at some things than others. Some people, for instance, can know how to do certain things much better. They can learn faster. They can recall things better but it doesn’t make them any better than you. It just makes it so that that is an advantage to them. That’s all it is. So negative self-talk is destructive and you need to stop it now.
