Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 744 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
There was once a person who had acquired quite a bit of wealth, and he believed in his heart that all this success was due to his own imagination, his ambition, his strength, his knowledge, and his beliefs.
His mentor, who knew better than this, once visited him, and he asked, “What makes you think you earned all these blessings and all of this money?”
The man, in the most arrogant way, answered, “Well, I’m very smart, and because of my work I deserve all the wealth that I’ve acquired.”
The mentor looked at him and said, “Please follow me.”
So, the man did. They went closer to a window that looked outside on the street, and the mentor asked the man, “What do you see?”
The man looked outside and, through the window glass, all he could see were people coming and going. So, he said. “All I see, are people coming and going. That’s it.”
Then the mentor went ahead and asked him to follow him, and he took him to a mirror. He asked him again, “What do you see now?”
Then the man, with great arrogance, said, “I see myself. It’s just a reflection of me, the smart person that I am.”
The mentor then asked him, “What is the difference between the two? You see, the glass of the window is not coated with silver, so in that case you could see other people. Yet this mirror, it does have a silver coating, and limits your vision so that you can only see yourself.”
In life, if you cover yourself with a silver lining, all you can see is yourself. Know that all the wealth that you’ve acquired is not through your own doing, but is the benevolence of the world and the Creator.
Now, of course you’ve done your part, but there’s no need to be arrogant. There are many other people who also deserve wealth. Let’s not be arrogant of that. Be proud of your accomplishments, but share your wealth.
This is a lesson that we have; whatever we acquire is not necessarily out of our own doing. Of course, we have contributed, and we must have done something right. But it’s not all our doing, and other people should be considered as well. They are deserving – perhaps the same amount, or perhaps more.
