Daily Wisdom – Motivational Podcast – Day 564 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond
Have you ever seen a child who learned how to walk?
Initially, when they take their first steps, they take small steps and fall, but they get up again, and then they take more small steps.
It says that the Creator of the world took a full week to create this whole beautiful universe that we live in. Now, why would the Creator of the world, if He has all the magical powers and the strength that is given to him, take a “whole” week, which is a long time, to build the world?
Well, He did it in “steps”. He could’ve done it all in one split moment but one of the lessons we learn from that is, that we have to follow in those similar footsteps. Meaning, in order to change ourselves and the world, we have to make small changes. Great things are created gradually and great people develop through small changes. A small change in the right direction is a great step to success.
If you introduce one new insight into your day, over a few months, you will be amazed at how much you will begin to enjoy what you’re doing with thought and concentration. If you decide, for instance, to develop good eating habits by adding some good food or natural food, perhaps a salad to your diet, slowly but surely, you will become a healthier person. Huge goals, big goals, can be accomplished by focusing on one small action at a time. You can even write a book if you wanted to. If you focus on writing a page a day, six days a week, you will write a book in a short period of time.
Is it better to try for larger changes? The answer is no. Because if you try to grab a hold of a large amount, you will not achieve anything. You will reach for small amount and you will achieve it but not large amounts. So make changes as small as possible.
A 5% change today will accumulate, if done on a regular basis, to a huge amount. By moving in the right direction, every minor change is a significant accomplishment. This is the reason why when someone decides to do a task successfully, they do it one step at a time.
When you start with small steps, think in terms of quantity and not quality.
Now, you may say, why should I give up quality? It doesn’t matter at the beginning even if you do something poorly. What matters is that you get started. Once you’re in action, you’ll be motivated to increase the energy that you put in, and then you’ll do it better and greater. There is no difference between one who does more or one who does less as long as the person’s intention is doing it for the right reason. Sometimes, you may feel that you are unable to keep your daily learning session but don’t give up because it’s just an off day. Tell yourself, let me still do it poorly today but just to get through it, and once you get into the process, into the habit, you will begin to enjoy things and you’ll be grateful for what you pushed yourself to do.
So first, what matters is the first step. Don’t be so focused on being perfect or on the quality, just be disciplined.
