Daily Wisdom  – Motivational Podcast – Day 187 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond

There is an interesting parable in the Old Testament. It says that at one point in time Moses went to see King Pharaoh with a stick in his hand. He threw the stick on the ground and it became a snake.  It says that the stick that became a snake was somewhat of a parable which was shown to King Pharaoh so that Moses would have all his people leave Egypt since they were there in bondage, as slaves.

There’s an interesting idea here about a stick versus the snake. A shepherd also walks around with a stick and so do some people, they just call it a cane. That stick helps them walk around and hang onto life without having to fall. In the olden days, aristocratic, people that were quite well-to-do also walked around with a cane, and they had all kinds of designs on them. Some of these canes can be found on the internet, and I invite you to look them up as they’re ornate designs and some, absolutely stunning.

Yet, the cane itself can become a weapon. You can hit people with it. It might even defend you if someone is coming after you.

This is what life is all about. A stick is the recognition of who you are and what you’ve got in life, and it can help you. These are the opportunities that you have.

A snake is venomous and could be dangerous. If you let the opportunities that you have, the sticks that you’re holding onto turn against you, they will become snakes and they will bite you and they will hurt you. They will scare you and they will keep you away from where you’re supposed to be. But, if you keep the stick and you let it be a stick, it will help you get where you need to be.

Often in life, we have to make decisions. Is it something that which will help me? Or something that will destroy me, something which is building me up or possibly destructive? Something which is helping me be better than the way I was before? Or, something which will actually degrade me and let me not be as good as I should be?

Life is full of opportunities. This is what day to day life is; opportunities mixed with difficulties. Our job is to sift through it and take the opportunities and turn them into possibilities.

Another step is to know that these possibilities are possible for you; for you to do something very good with it, so don’t let your stick become a snake. Be free, be happy.
