Daily Wisdom  – Motivational Podcast – Day 543 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond

I would like to relate to you a story and an illustration of how precious life is and what we should do to recognize and be grateful for what we’ve got. This is a story that dates back a couple hundred years ago.

Indeed, there was a young man who became a traveling tutor. In these days, he would go from town to town and he would teach the local children for an extended period. In this way, he accumulated, a small fortune of 12 gold coins and one copper coin for his work. He was so happy and he decided to go back home with this money and start a business. Well, during his travel back to his home, he stopped at an inn, and not knowing exactly what to do with all his money, which was a considerable amount of money at the time, he entrusted that money to the innkeeper, and asked him to keep it safely for him until the next morning. The next morning, the innkeeper turned over the purse back to the tutor and gave him back what he had given to him to keep. The tutor began counting his coins and all the 12 coins were there, and then he looked but he couldn’t find the copper one. He asked the innkeeper, “I am missing the copper coin. I don’t know where it is.”

This is the story. Look at the foolishness of this young man. He received all his gold coins back, yet he continued to suspect that the innkeeper for not returning the “one” copper coin which was worthless.

You see, every single night, our soul leaves our body and we go on a sleeping mode. The Creator of the world, then takes our soul and re-energizes it while we are sleeping. Upon waking up, we are stronger and physically more energized.

Why look for the copper coin? The copper coin is just a small little item. Look at all the beautiful things you’ve been given: a mouth to speak, eyes to see, legs to walk, ears to hear, so many good things. Not everybody has been gifted with this. Some people, unfortunately, are not well and they are missing either one or more of those senses due to no reason of their own, just the way things are and we don’t realize it.

So look at yourself, analyze your situation, and look at your body and figure out if what you have been given as a gift and ask yourself: “Should I be grateful for all the things that I have right now in my life?”

Once you realize that, forget the gold, forget the coin. Think about what you’ve got. Look at all the good things you’ve been given and if you are missing the copper coin, it’s not a big deal. It’s a little thing in your life and indeed, it means very little.

I hope you realize that. If not, this story should remind you of it.
