Daily Wisdom  – Motivational Podcast – Day 956 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond

What are the character traits that a person should train himself to follow? It’s quite interesting.

You see, people have different natural traits. Some men are irritable and they’re prone to anger. Others, they’re stable and they never become angry or they are rarely provoked to anger, only once every few years. Some people are very proud, while others are humble. Some are controlled by desire, and they will never be satisfied in their search for pleasure; yet, others have pure hearts and they will not desire even their basic necessities.

It says also that some are greedy, and they will not be satisfied with all the money in the world. As it says, one who loves money, will never be satisfied with money. Others, seek a little, a small amount, less than required for their needs is enough for them, and they will not go out to seek to earn their sustenance. There are miserly people who starve themselves in order to save whatever they have to spend for their food and it’s done in a begrudgingly way. Others spend their money lavishly, and the same applies with regard to other traits. There are those who are light hearted and those who are melancholy, hard-hearted and easygoing, cruel and merciful, timid and courageous.

The truth is, the good and proper path which a person should train himself to follow is the middle way. The middle way is the right way. A person should not desire anything except those things which the body truly needs and cannot exist without, and that’s what is the middle way. Similarly, a person should not be involved in the business only to the extent that is necessary to provide for his immediate necessities. He should not also be overly tight-fisted or overly generous, rather he should give to everyone according to his means. And he should lend an appropriate money to those who need who don’t have. He should not be overly joyous or light-hearted, nor sad and melancholy, rather he should always be happy, gentle, and friendly. The same applies with other traits. A person should always follow the middle path, and that’s considered a wise person. There are some things we don’t need in this world. Pride, for instance, an extremely wicked quality, and a man is truly forbidden to do that. To train themselves to be humble is highly susceptible to goodness. How can one train himself to be humble? One should always speak gently and should have his heart towards the heavens, and they should regard everyone else greater than themselves. That is the middle path and that is what you should follow.
