Here is a subject which is close to my heart for many years and that is, how do we change our mind to see the positive?

There’s a theory behind it and it’s been proven, even scientifically. As a matter of fact, recent breakthroughs show that the brain functions in two areas. When it’s the left side of the brain, we think thoughts of peace and happiness, joy, contentment, even optimism. But when the right side is activated, then we have the opposite. We have the doom and gloom, and the worries, and even pessimism.

Now, each one of those can be activated at any given time and we have the power to control one versus the other. And, by the time we become adults, unfortunately, depending on the character and the life that we’ve lived, we automatically go towards one versus the other. It’s interesting, isn’t it?

Here’s the great news, however, for anyone whose mind goes to the gloomy side, the side that is negative: if you want to, you have to choose to think about things that are peaceful and optimistic.

First know that you have the ability to do that. Second, over a period of time, you will need to train yourself that always think on the side of good. You may say, well, that’s simple until something comes up and when that challenge, that obstacle happens, what will you do? Stop and think at that moment, what is it that you’re trying to accomplish? To overcome that obstacle, there is a solution. It may not be apparent in the beginning but it’s certainly there, so here are a few steps that you might want to take: first, realize that it takes practice to create a new pathway. You’re not going to go from this gloomy negative side to positive overnight, but however, you should know that you can do it and that the first thing you need is the awareness without judging yourself that you can create a new path to go towards the positive.

The second is the learning. You have to learn and through reflection sometimes even after the event that things can become better, and the new habit will then be created. You have to focus on the positive because this is the only way to live a peaceful life. And since you don’t have control over some of those situations, what’s the point of worrying or thinking negatively? That doesn’t mean you deny the challenges or that there is no grief in your life, or that these circumstances simply don’t exist. No, all of these are real. The question is, what are you going to do about it? How will you react when these things happen and what will be the action that you will take? If you want to be happy, those are the steps you need to follow. The difficulty in your life can be controlled with your mind if you wish to at any given time.
