Daily Wisdom  – Motivational Podcast – Day 581 – Inspiration: Above and Beyond

I heard a very interesting story not long ago about Mark Vancil. He is the editor of Michael Jordan’s autobiography. Now, honestly, I don’t know much about sports but this is what I read somewhere about Michael Jordan who is perhaps one of the greatest basketball players of all time: I heard that he did not make the high school varsity team the first time he tried out. So how did he trust himself enough to keep going? What did he say? What did he do? And this is what Mark Vancil says, he says that it was the final shot of the final championship of Jordan’s career as a player, and he had the ball. Now, his team’s win hinged on his making that one shot, and he did. Afterward, he was asked if in the second before he took the shot, he had been worried about blowing it, and he said, “Why would I worry about something that hasn’t happened yet?”

Isn’t that an interesting way of seeing life? So many of us worry about earthquakes and heart attacks, airplanes and stock crashes, relationship and job losses, and so many things – you name it, we worry about it. Do you actually believe that some of these things hardly ever happen? Indeed, we survived them and I truly believe that I can eliminate some of these bad things if I worry about them at times but what would be the worry for?

Now, some of us have the attitude that from these things that we have seen, we don’t know why they happen but we are so worried, and here are two the painful circumstances: no amount of worrying will keep those things from happening to you; and here’s the second: you will survive it.

That’s the truth and not just survive, but quite well, and so the more you look at your life, you will realize that you should not worry about anything. As a matter of fact, you should say, “I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it,” and remind yourself that you do have what it takes to overcome all of these anticipated problems. Why waste the energy? As a matter of fact, you’ve heard the saying, “Don’t borrow tomorrow’s troubles today,” or as Scarlett O’Hara said, “I’ll think of it tomorrow.” It is so true. You can deal with this situation when it occurs but you might as well not waste precious energy in advance. That’s the essence of self trust. You will survive, that is the truth, that is a fact. Why not think about it this way and look at life in such a way where you should not worry about these things?

Again, remember what this famous basketball player said, “Why would I worry about something that hasn’t happened yet?” Why be concerned about that? Why not focus on the positive energy of the good things that can happen? Think positive and the outcome will be positive. That’s a guarantee. Regardless, you will survive.
